- Keep Clutter-Free
Consider the function of your bedroom, and what is actually needed to have quick access to and what can be stored away while not in use. Think about using a multi-drawer nightstand which can house all smaller items, journals, books, and other essential tools. Clutter has been proven to cause a negative impact on how you feel. What should be peacefully resting on your nightstand are items such as: a house plant, lamp, current reading book, water glass, or a candle. Items that uplift your senses in a healthy, natural way while in bed.
- Correct Artificial Light
Artificial light should be fluent with the light level spectrum of natural light. This being said, as humans we follow along with the sun’s natural daylight cycle; and therefore, when using artificial light it should play a major role in how our bodies adjust throughout the day. At night consider the low-level table top lamp before lights-out. Reason being is our circadian level develops a natural sleep pattern that is still the same as our ancestors. (Awake when the sunrises, and asleep when the moon glows).

- Determine Proper Sheets
Always aim for using natural fibers when you sleep. This allows your body to breathe properly compared to synthetics. As you may have been told, sheet thread count doesn’t always mean a better material. Let your senses do the test by feeling the fabric prior to using.
- Linen – a material that is cool for summer months, lasts long if maintained properly, can have different textures (rough, smooth) therefore should feel before using.
- Cotton Percale – Your typical “crisp” sheets, a classic fabric both smooth, and firm. Does perform well in warm weather.
- Cotton Sateen – A soft, smooth fabric that has a silky texture. Used best for cooler weather.

- Clean the Air
Clean air can help determine a better sleep cycle. A few recommendations are: using an air purifier to remove dust and pollen, having a few houseplants, vacuum/dust weekly (more if have allergies), open windows to air out in the morning for 30 min., and choose natural fibers that don’t contain harmful VOCs.
- Rethink Technology
As you may have been informed, our technology devices give off blue light waves. Which makes it more difficult to fall asleep; therefore, it’s important to consider no T.V. in the bedroom, and putting our phones, tablets, and ebooks away at night. Rest your eyes, and commit to other before-bed activities such as reading a paper book.
